Raiders open with win

Despite wet conditions in Queensland on Sunday night 17 March, the Canberra Raiders got their season off to a winning start defeating the Gold Coast Titans 21-0. The result is the first time the Raiders have kept a side to nil since 2013. The Raiders host the Melbourne Storm at GIO Stadium Canberra on Friday night, 22 March. Kick off 6pm.

Sportsground closures

All ACT Government irrigated sportsgrounds will be closed until Sunday 31 March to undergo necessary renovations, which are carried out twice yearly at the beginning and end of the summer sport season. Sportsgrounds will reopen on Monday 1 April.

Charity event aces fundraising

Pยฒ (P Squared) Advisory held its annual corporate charity tennis event, Pยฒ Invitational, on Thursday 14 March raising $167,000 for two local charities โ€“ Raw Potential Canberra and The Fly Program ($83,500 for each charity).

Girls Make Your Move

Tennis ACT has partnered with the Australian Governmentโ€™s Girls Make Your Move campaign for a sports day on Sunday 24 March 9-11am at the Canberra Tennis Centre. The free community event aims to inspire, energise and empower women and girls to be more active.

Tennis action

Australiaโ€™s crop of rising female tennis stars are competing in the capital over two weeks as the Canberra Tennis Centre hosts the ACT Claycourt International #1and #2,back to back womenโ€™s USD$25,000 ITF World Tennis Tour events on 18-31 March.

Woods a winner

Local pool player Steve Woods announced his return to the competitive pool scene by winning the prestigious 2019 Albury Wodonga Open 8 Ball Open (Albury Open, 8-10 March). Woods defeated Ben Nunan from Victoria 5 frames to 2 in a high calibre final.

Rally sponsorship

Ahead of the 2019 Netier National Capital Rally, Abode Hotels has announced that they will sponsor rally car driver Adrian Coppin for this yearโ€™s event hosted on 11 May in Uriarra Forest. Abode Hotels will also give the rally a new home, with the rally headquarters, service park and competitor hub all hosted at Abode Woden; netiernationalcapitalrally.com.au
