Rebels reel in Brumbies

The Brumbies let slip a 16-point lead as they were defeated 29-26 by the Melbourne Rebels on Friday 8 March.

This week, the Brumbies take on the NSW Waratahs at GIO Stadium Canberra on Friday 15 March 7.45pm. The Brumbies Runners will also be on show, taking on the Waratahs ‘A’ from 5pm. Tickets via ticketek.com.au

In other club news, five Brumbies academy players – Lachlan Lonergan, Lachlan Osborne, Will Goddard, Noah Lolesio and Seamus Smith – have been selected in the Junior Wallabies Squad.

Raiders ready for round 1

The Raiders kick off their NRL campaign on Sunday 17 March with an away match against the Titans. The Green Machine hosts the Melbourne Storm at GIO Stadium Canberra for their first home match on Friday 22 March 6pm. Tickets via ticketek.com.au

AFLW action

In the AFLW round 7 draw, the GWS Giants take on the Geelong Cats at UNSW Canberra Oval on Friday 15 March 7.15pm. Free entry.

In other news, the GWS Giants men’s side lost 7.15.57 to 10.15.75 to the Adelaide Crows in their JLT Community Series match in Canberra on Friday 8 March.

Local rugby

The 81st season of the John I Dent Cup will start on Saturday 30 March. The 12-team first division competition and nine-team second division competition kick off on the same day.

The Women’s Premier and Women’s Development League start on Saturday 4 May.

Hot rods in Goulburn

More than 600 hot rods are set to roll into Goulburn over the Easter long weekend in 2020, for the Australian Street Rod Federation (ASRF) Goulburn Regional Nationals. The nationals will return to the Goulburn Recreation Area on 10-13 April 2020.

Capital Tigers supporters bus

The Richmond supporters group, Capital Tigers, have chartered a bus to Sydney to see the Tigers take on GWS on Saturday 6 April. The bus will depart Eastlake FC at approximately 9am in order to attend the Sydney Supporter Group’s pre-game function and then back home directly after the game. Duo selected for Gems squad

ACT basketballers Isabelle Bourne and Ashlee Hannan have been selected in the Australian Gems’ squad for a camp at Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence from 5-7 May. The camp is in preparation for the FIBA Under-19 World Cup in Bangkok, Thailand in July.

Cycling at Stromlo

Sports integrity

The Federal Government has announced plans for a new single, national sports integrity agency, Sports Integrity Australia, which will bring together the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA), the National Integrity of Sport Unit and the national sports integrity functions of Sport Australia.

A new National Sports Tribunal will hear anti-doping rule violation and other sports disputes, and resolve them consistently, cost-effectively and transparently.

Concussion toolkit

Australia’s leading sports medicine experts have launched Concussion in Sport Australia’s position statement and website [concussioninsport.gov.au] and are urging athletes, coaches and parents across all levels of sport to heed the message “if in doubt, sit them out”.

Concussion in Sport Australia is an initiative of the Australian Institute of Sport, the Australian Medical Association, the Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians, and Sports Medicine Australia.
