Raiders slay Dragons

The Canberra Raiders celebrated a convincing win against the St George-Illawarra Dragons in Wollongong last weekend, defeating the home team 37-8. It didn’t look good for the Canberra side when the Dragons scored in the 16th minute, giving them an early 4-0 lead, but didn’t take the Green Machine long to wake up with Hudson Young getting over the line soon after. Jack Wighton showed his skill yet again, with his third double in the last four games. The Raiders are still sitting in fifth place on the ladder, after being unsuccessful cracking the top four in recent weeks. The Green Machine return home this weekend, facing the New Zealand Warriors on Sunday 20 September from 2pm at GIO Stadium Canberra.

The Plus500 Brumbies will play their home Super Rugby AU Grand Final this weekend in front of a sell-out crowd. The Canberra side with go head to head with the Queensland Reds, following the Reds’ 25-13 win over the Melbourne Rebels last Saturday night. Sydney Thunder zoom into Canberra

Players from the Sydney Thunder Big Bash League team paid a virtual visit to Canberra kids last week. Skyping into primary school classrooms, fast bowler Chris Tremain and wicketkeeper Matthew Gilkes played games and answered questions with children from Years 2 to 6. The virtual visit was part of the club’s regional engagement, which usually sees them travelling to regional locations across NSW. The Sydney Thunder have locked in two ‘home’ matches at Canberra’s Manuka Oval for the 2020-21 KFC Big Bash League (BBL), facing the Melbourne Stars and Brisbane Heat in the national capital. The season is set to start on 3 December with games around the country, but it is not yet clear if or when the schedule will be revised.
