Raiders score famous victory over Roosters
The Canberra Raiders have claimed victory in the NRL grand final re-match against the Sydney Roosters at the SCG last Thursday night, 16 July. After being riddled with injury in the past few weeks, the team took the 24-20 win without veteran hooker Josh Hodgson and promising young winger Bailey Simonsson, who had both been ruled out for the remainder of the season in the game prior. Josh Papalii was a standout, scoring the final try to put Raiders in the four-point lead. The Raiders face the South Sydney Rabbitohs at GIO Stadium Canberra this Saturday 25 July; kick-off 7.35pm.

Brumbies beat ‘Tahs
The Brumbies have come away with a one-point win over the NSW Waratahs in a nail biter at ANZ Stadium in Sydney on Saturday night, 18 July. Meeting for the first time since the Super Rugby season restarted (as the renamed Super Rugby AU), the winning try was scored by Issak Fines in the 77th minute and converted by Bayley Kuenzle to secure the 24-23 victory. The team welcomed back Wallaby Tom Banks for the game, after overcoming a foot injury, and kept the same starting side from the win against the Melbourne Rebels the week prior. The Brumbies face the Western Force at Leichhardt Oval in Sydney this Saturday 25 July; kick-off 7.15pm.

New Comp Cricket ACT
Cricket ACT have announced a new competition that will allow up to 264 local players to compete against high-level opponents. Sponsored by CDC Data Centres, a new 22 team competition will go ahead as the CDC Bash. The opportunity will be available to U12/13, U14/15 players as well as U16 Boys, U17/18/19 Men, Cricket ACT Female Pathway participants, Senior Men, Meteors and Senior Women.

Community contact sport
Community contact sport returned in the ACT over the weekend, 18-19 July, after the ACT Government announced on Thursday last week (16 July) that the competitions could go ahead. Community contact sport had been set to return on 18 July as part of Stage 3 in Canberra’s COVID Recovery Plan but was reassessed following five positive coronavirus cases being recorded in the ACT on 8-10 July.
ACT Netball leadership team
ACT Netball has announced its inaugural leadership team, as its Opens and U23’s The Capital Spirit squads embark on their first the Netball NSW Origin Energy Premier League. The two teams will be competing from 22 July, in the league that showcases the best netballers in NSW and now, the ACT. Keely Rodrigo and Tamara Weatherburn have been named as Captain and Vice-Captain of the Opens team, while the U23’s will be led by Emily Brady and Layla Bahgat as Captain and Vice-Captain.
