Raiders rout Warriors
The Raiders recorded a resounding 46-12 win over the Warriors in New Zealand on Friday 2 August. The Raiders host the second place Roosters at GIO Stadium Canberra on Sunday 11 August. Kick off 2pm.
Red-hot Brave
The CBR Brave defeated Adelaide Adrenaline 7-2 and 5-4 in their Australian Ice Hockey League matches over the weekend of 3-4 August. The Brave host two games at Phillip this weekend, taking on the Sydney Ice Dogs on Saturday 10 August 5.30pm and Melbourne Mustangs on Sunday 11 August 4.30pm.
Meet the Giants
There is an open training session for the GWS Giants today (Thursday 8 August) around 5pm. There is also a Canberra Fan Day on Saturday 10 August from 10.15am, with player appearances at 10.30-11.30am, including a signing session. Both events at UNSW Canberra Oval.
Alaalatoa named Player of the Year
Brumbies prop forward Allan Alaalatoa won the Brett Robinson Award for Super Rugby Player of the Year at the Brumbies annual awards evening on Friday 2 August. Tayla Stanford was named the Helen Taylor Super W Player of the Year. There was a double success for departing playmaker Christian Lealiifano, scooping the Supporters’ Choice – Men award and the new Christian Lealiifano Spirit of Rugby Award; the award inaugurated and named after Lealiifano to recognise the upholding and exhibiting of the club’s values. Georgia O’Neill was the Supporters’ Choice – Women. Other award winners include Brooke Gilroy, Jahrome Brown, Craig Robberds, Tevita Kuridrani, Rory Arnold, Andy Muirhead and Noah Lolesio.
Capital to Coast
The YMCA Canberra Capital to Coast (C2C) 100km trail race will be held on 23-25 August and caters for all running abilities. Registrations close on Friday 16 August; capitaltocoast.com.au
Socceroos Canberra bound
GIO Stadium will host the Socceroos against Nepal on Thursday 10 October in their first match at home as part of the second round of qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.Tickets go on sale to the general public at 1pm on Thursday 15 August.
