Aussie legend Nedd Brockman completes 1000-mile run, raises $2.6m for homelessness

At around 6am this morning, Aussie champion Nedd Brockman completed his extraordinary 1000-mile (1600km) running challenge at Sydney Olympic Park.

The challenge started on 3 October, and after 12 days, 13 hours, 16 minutes and 45 guelling seconds, the emotional 25-year-old crossed the finish line with tears in his eyes as he hugged his mum.

Nedd ran 3760 laps of the blue athletics track, averaging 128 kilometres per day. He also ate and slept at the athletes’ centre next to the track.

He set out with the goal of breaking the world record of 10 days, and while injuries prevented that, it didn’t deter him from reaching the 1000-mile mark to help raise money for a worthy cause.

And raise money he has! Thanks to Nedd’s herculean efforts, over $2.6 million has been raised for Australians battling homelessness, with that figure continuing to climb.

Having not slept for 24 hours when he crossed the line, Nedd was keen for a wash.

“I can’t wait for a shower,” he said.

He had to battle thunderstorms and torrential rain at times, but that was nothing compared to the injuries and lack of sleep.

“Never have I ever felt so many emotions to the absolute peak of them all. My toes were like King Charles’ fingers after day one. I’ve had no function of my right ant tib (tibialis anterior) since the end of day three. No sleep because the tendinitis everywhere punches me in the throat come rest time. The feet have swollen three sizes due to the rain/track. It’s healthy stuff,” he wrote on Instagram.

The former electrician won the hearts of the country in 2022 when he completed a 4000km run across Australia.
