ACT health minister Rachel Stephen-Smith today introduced a controversial bill to compulsorily acquire the site of Calvary Public Hospital in Bruce to build a new $1 billion hospital upon it, and transition operation of the public hospital from Calvary to Canberra Health Services.
Canberra Health Services claims it tried, unsuccessfully, to negotiate with Calvary last year about transferring the Calvary Public Hospital site in Bruce to the ACT Government and setting up a new, modern services agreement.
The ACT’s four Federal Labor politicians say the budget delivers for Canberra but Independent Senator David Pocock considers it unambitious and a missed opportunity.
