Beauty review: Clean & Pure lip balm

The search for the perfect lip product seems to be a never-ending quest. Throwing their hat in the ring is Clean & Pure, with their beeswax lip balms. They may just be a strong contender, as their products are created with natural and locally sourced ingredients. Their latest offering is also environmentally conscious, with plastic-free packaging.

Manufactured in Western Australia, Clean & Pure prides itself on being free of chemical nasties and cruelty-free. The company was born after Mark and Melanie Chapman experienced natural and locally sourced skincare routines while living in the Mediterranean. Wanting the same benefits when they returned home to Australia, the duo was unimpressed with the current options and decided to create their own.

Testing a few different flavours, the one that came up on top as the favourite was the Manuka Honey and Zinc SPF 15+ balm. The product is smooth with a slight tackiness; you can feel it on your lips, but not in an unpleasant way. The honey scent is subtle, while the cardboard packaging is sturdy and stands up against being thrown around in a handbag. The balm is fairly long-lasting and leaves lips feeling smooth and nourished.

The verdict: This was a divisive one among the CD team. One of us found it hydrating without having a slimy or wet feeling, while the other thought it wasn’t hydrating enough and missed the wetness of some lip products. While we adore the sustainability of the balm and its packaging, it will come down to personal preference for the wetness of the product.
