Belconnen man faces court on assault charges after community information

A 29-year-old Belconnen man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today, Saturday 11 February, charged with multiple counts of Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm and Affray following an incident last month.

About 1.50am on Thursday 26 January, ACT Policing received reports of a serious assault in Garema Place, Canberra City.

Following publication of an ACT Policing media release by local media, several members of the community came forward with information.

On Friday 10 February, ACT Policing executed search warrants in both Belconnen, ACT and Marsden Park, NSW.

During these search warrants, officers seized evidence including electronic items. They also conducted several interviews in relation to the dual assault.

The 29-year-old man was arrested and will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today.

Police expect to lay similar charges against a second man, who will be summonsed to appear before the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.

In a media statement today, ACT Policing thanked the community for their assistance.
