Belconnen market development construction set to resume

Construction of the new Capital Food Market in Belconnen is set to resume with the new appointment of builders, following PBS Building going into voluntary administration earlier this week.

One of Canberraโ€™s leading commercial builders, Construction Control, will be appointed to complete the project.

In a statement, Elanor Investors Groupโ€™s Co-Head of Real Estate, Michael Baliva said, โ€œConstruction of the new market hall is well progressedโ€.

โ€œOur team has worked tirelessly over the past week to ensure our sub-contractors have the opportunity to continue working on the project, allowing the opening the Capital Food Market to not be significantly delayed,โ€ Mr Baliva said.

โ€œWeโ€™re excited to realise our vision of delivering a new fresh food and casual dining experience.

โ€œWe look forward to welcoming Canberraโ€™s residents and visitors to the Capital Food Market in the coming months.

โ€œIn the meantime, our traders will continue to operate from the temporary โ€œBelco Shed’.โ€

In a statement, Master Builders ACT said it welcomed Construction Control Australiaโ€™s appointment as the construction lead on the Capital Food Markets project. This follows Mondayโ€™s announcement that construction company, PBS, had gone into voluntary administration, leading to the closure of all PBS projects, including the Capital Food Markets site.

Master Builders ACT CEO Michael Hopkins said, โ€œAfter the devasting news about PBS earlier this week, Iโ€™m happy to see MBA Member, Construction Control Australia, take over the Capital Food Markets project. This will be particularly welcome news for our supplier and subcontractor members who will be the sectors greatest affected by the cessation of PBS projects.โ€

โ€œWe will continue to provide support and advice to the MBA Members who have been affected by this news,โ€ Mr Hopkins said.
