Werewolves Within (MA15+) 2021

Adapted from a videogame, this comedy-horror will keep you guessing and laughing. 

Trapped by a snowstorm, the residents of Beaverfield are stuck inside the small town’s local inn. A proposed gas pipeline has created divisions. The newly arrived forest ranger, Finn, and postal worker, Cecily, must try and keep the peace as a creature has begun terrorising the community. 

Attempting to uncover the truth behind the creature in this murder mystery whodunit only leads to red herrings.

Fantasy and virtual reality collide in this animated adventure. 

Suzu is a shy high school student. Her greatest joy in life is singing but after suffering a tragic incident when she was younger, she is left unable to. When a terrifying, ugly, bruised beast interrupts her concert, she is soon swept up in a heroic and emotional adventure to uncover the true identity of the unbelievably strong monster.

20th Century Women (R) 2016

A comedy-drama about a single mother raising her teenage son in the late 70s.

It’s the summer of 1979 in Santa Barbara, California. Dorothea is a strong-minded single mother trying to raise her son Jamie, a young man trying to find himself in a world filled with change and rebellion. Feeling disconnected from Jamie, Dorothea enlists the help of other spirited females in his life to share in his upbringing.

Abbie, a live-in boarder and Julie, the knowledgeable neighbour, are two unconventional young women trying to aid Dorothea in Jamie’s upbringing.

It’s wartime and secrets are the norm, female pilots are not.

It’s a stormy night during World War II and female pilot Maude Garrett is travelling with top-secret documents. Boarding a B-17 Bomber plane, she is surrounded by a crass all-male crew who are suspicious of her identity and cargo.

A shadow appears in the clouds and the tense atmosphere only grows. An evil presence has found its way onboard the flight.

The Longest Weekend (M) 2022

This Indie Australian family drama looks at the healing power of speaking the unspoken while dealing with dysfunctional family relationships.

Three scattered and disconnected siblings have found themselves living under the same roof once again. The Palmer siblings have gathered at the family home for the weekend while their mother is away. Avery is the oldest and she’s dealing with the collapse of her marriage, Lou, the middle child, is a hard-partying lesbian, and Rio, the youngest, is a freeloader, still living at home with mum.

The girls are horrified when Rio announces that he has found their estranged father Mark, an abusive drunk who abandoned them and has arranged to meet with him.

Based on the 2009 novel Heroic Measures by Jill Ciment.

Married couple Ruth and Alex spend a weekend overwhelmed by personal conflict and real estate issues as they try to come to terms with selling the Brooklyn apartment they’ve spent their lives together in.

There is no elevator in the building and their apartment is five flights up.

The Swedish thriller that inspired the English blockbuster remake.

Mikael Blomkvist is a disgraced journalist. Under the pretence of writing a family biography, Blomkvist is employed by a wealthy businessman to find the truth about what happened to his niece who disappeared 40 years ago.

Enlisting the help of Lisbeth Salander, a talented but anti-social computer hacker, Blomkvist is able to investigate further.

Inspired by the life of Wuthering Heights novelist Emily Brontë

Emily imagines the life of the author behind the classic piece of Gothic literature. This historical semi-fictional account is filled with drama, intrigue and romance. Haunted by her mother’s death and longing for freedom, Emily is fuelled to begin writing what is now considered a classic of English literature.

Brontë was known as revolutionary and prolific at a time when it was frowned upon for women to be such, at its heart this is a story of female rebellion.

Starring Aubrey Plaza, this drama makes you question everything. 

Taking place at a remote lake house, Plaza plays a filmmaker at a creative impasse who has come to this rural retreat seeking comfort away from her past. She soon finds she can create her own inspiration by manipulating her hosts in pursuit of a work of art. 

Blurring the lines of reality, this film is told as though you are inside the writing process of the filmmaker, the characters develop overnight and the plot gains traction.

Florence’s obstacles are amassing and facing political backlash, she finds an adversary in a local grand dame. She has the support of a reclusive book-loving widower, but it might not be enough.
