Big Splash apologises for not opening, plans to keep the park running with upgrades

After weeks of speculation, Big Splash has broken its silence, announcing in a letter that the water park plans to reopen once major maintenance and upgrade works are completed.

Having not opened this summer, there has been speculation that the beloved establishement may not reopen.

In the letter to Deputy Chief Minister Yvette Berry MLA published on Facebook, the Big Splash management team apologised for not yet opening this summer and they are currently working on upgrading the park.

“We are sorry that the park has not opened yet for the 24/25 summer season, it was always the plan to at least open the pools if possible,” the letter reads.

“It is our intention to continue to run the Aquatic Park – Big Splash but currently we are working through significant recitifcation and maintenance work required for the safe operation of the park.

“These include, but are not limited to, fixing cracking in the pools, repainting and tiling of the pool as needed, repairing the old slide (pumps, filtration systems, structural steel and main control systems), renovating the change rooms, the kitchen and cafe area as well as improving the landscaping with more seating and table areas.

“We are also working with professional consultants on a plan to add other recreational facilities to upgrade the functional contents of the park fo rthe community to be used not only in the summer season of the year. These plans in the infancy stage but will continue to be on in accordance with any government planning requirements.

“Please feel free to let us know if you have any further concerns.

“Kind regards, Big Splash Water Management Team.”

Ms Berry said she was pleased to hear the news.

“Iโ€™m relieved to hear that Big Splashโ€™s closure is only temporary and the park will reopen once repairs and upgrade works are complete. I canโ€™t wait to see what new and improved facilities Big Splash has in store for the Canberra community,” she posted on Facebook.
