Binge-worthy TV shows to get you through lockdown

If you’re looking for something to watch during the current Canberra lockdown, we’ve got you covered with this list of binge-worthy TV shows. There is something for all ages. 

New Girl (M)

If you’re looking for something light and fun, this show never fails to make me laugh. After breaking up with her long-term boyfriend, Jessica Day moves into an apartment with Schmidt, Nick and Coach. Together, alongside Winston and Jess’ best friend Cece, they navigate the perils of adulthood.

The Wilds (MA 15+)

This gripping drama follows a group of teenage girls who must fight for their survival after their plane crashes and leaves them stranded on an island. It’ll have you on the edge of your seat.

Rugrats (G)

Have a look at the world through the eyes of a baby in Rugrats – everything is bigger, more mysterious and uncontrollable. It’s perfect for anyone with younger children and it’ll probably bring back a lot of memories for parents too.

Peaky Blinders (MA 15+)

This one isn’t for the faint of heart, it follows a gang based in Birmingham led by Tommy Shelby. Set in 1919 the drama is full of hard truths, crime, family ties, loss, and love.

Love on the Spectrum (G/PG)

If you are looking for a feel-good show, this is it. Join seven young adults, who are on the autism spectrum, in their search for love and relationships. It’s heartfelt, adorable, and guaranteed to make you smile.

The Bold Type (M)

This show follows the lives of three women who are an integral part of the team at Scarlet magazine. While working together to put out each edition Jane, Kat and Sutton must navigate the workplace as they struggle with their identities, manage friendships and find love. 

Where to watch: Stan 

Yellowstone (MA 15+)

This show has raving reviews. A sixth-generation homesteader and devoted father, John Dutton controls the largest ranch in the United States. Amid shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds, and hard-earned respect, Dutton’s property is in constant conflict with those it borders.

Kim Possible (G)

Now, for all of the 2000s kids, this one is kicking it old school. It follows the titular character Kim Possible who saves the world from evil villains with her best friend Ron Stoppable. This one is perfect for kiddos who are looking for adventure.

Puberty Blues (MA 15+)

Follow the lives of Debbie and Sue as they navigate their teenage years in 1977 Australia. The coming-of-age drama will have you reflecting on all the things you got up to as a teen.

Defending Jacob (M)

A family’s life is turned upside down when the son is accused of murdering his classmate. Chris Evans plays Andy Barber who gets torn between his duty as assistant district attorney and his role as a father.

The Sleepover Club (G)

Follow Frankie, Rosie, Fliss, Kenny and Lyndz on their adventures as The Sleepover Club. They deal with growing up, annoying boys, friendship, and weekly sleepovers. It’s perfect for tweens.

Superstore (M)

If you’re looking for a laugh this one could be for you. The American sitcom follows a group of employees at a supermarket who have to deal with their own problems while being faced with customers.

McCleod’s Daughters (M)

This one is an Aussie classic. If you aren’t familiar with it, the show follows two sisters who are reunited when they inherit an outback property. After 20 years apart they are thrown together to form an all-female workforce at Drover’s Run.

Adam Liaw’s Road Trip For Good (PG)

Be inspired in the kitchen with Adam Liaw’s Road Trip For Good. At the beginning of 2020, before the pandemic hit, the former MasterChef winner hit the road around Australia to source some of the best food the country has on offer.

Escape to the Chateau (PG)

Can Dick and Angel Strawbridge bring an abandoned French chateau back to life? Watch them and their family attempt just that in Escape to the Chateau.

Catfish: The TV Show (M)

After being ‘catfished’ himself, Nev Schulman, with the help of Max Joseph, sets out to assist people who have fallen in love online. They work together to test the authenticity of their lovers’ identities and let me tell you, at times, it is wild.
