The body of a woman has been recovered following reports she had been swept away in floodwaters at Tuross, near Cooma NSW.

Emergency services were called to Tuross Road, near Countegary Road, Tuross just after 2.20am this morning, Friday 10 December, following reports a vehicle with a man and a woman inside had become trapped in floodwaters.

NSW Police were told the female exited the car and was swept away by the floodwaters.

Officers attached to Monaro Police District attended the scene, and together with volunteers from the NSW State Emergency Service (SES), commenced a search.

After 7.15am, the body of a woman was located downstream and recovered by NSW SES.

She is yet to be formally identified, however, is believed to be a 37-year-old woman.

Police located the male occupant a short distance away who did not require medical treatment.

Inquiries into the incident are continuing and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Overnight, the NSW SES conducted 12 flood rescues around the state, two-thirds of them on the south coast amid heavy rain.

Upper Murrumbidgee River Flood Warning

Meanwhile, the Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Minor Flood Warning for the Upper Murrumbidgee River, which will see it peak this evening.

Even though conditions are likely to ease across the ACT over the weekend, river levels will remain above average as the upstream catchment drains.

If you are undertaking outdoor activities this weekend, take care and be sensible. It is not worth risking your life.
