The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) have issued a severe weather warning for heavy rain and damaging winds across the ACT and eastern NSW over the coming days.
The BOM says an upper low over northern NSW will slowly move south over the next two days bringing an increase in rain and strong wind.
Damaging wind with peak gusts of around 90 km/h are possible on Tuesday and into Wednesday over the ACT, South Coast, Illawarra and Southern Tablelands.
If it is safe to do so, the ACT State Emergency Service (ACTSES) advises the community to:
-Move your car under cover or away from trees
-Take extra precaution when walking outside or driving
-Secure or put away loose items that are outside
-Monitor the conditions, stay up to date with weather warnings through www.bom.gov.au.
The news comes a few days after the Queanbeyan and Braidwood SES Units rescued a woman trapped in flood water on Bombay Road.
Her vehicle had become stuck in fast flowing water with the woman forced to climb onto the tray before being rescued.
Meanwhile, heavy rainfall which may lead to flash flooding is forecast for the Mid North Coast, Hunter, Sydney Metropolitan area, Illawarra, South Coast, and parts of the Tablelands.
Six-hourly rainfall totals between 70 to 120 mm are possible.
Thunderstorms may deliver heavier totals over short time periods with locally intense falls possible.
Heavy rainfall will persist throughout the warning area today, with the peak of the rainfall most likely about the Sydney Metropolitan and Illawarra districts tonight and into Tuesday.
