This is a great present for someone building a new garden or for those who want to make their existing garden more wildlife friendly. Bishop shows in good detail how to design, plant and maintain fauna-friendly gardens. Lovingly illustrated with terrific photos, Habitatcontains a mass of information, including a detailed plant directory, information on what plants suit which animals and instructions on how to build supporting structures such as frog ponds and nesting boxes. It’s a beautiful book and a useful long-term resource.

The Gamer’s Edition of the Guinness World Records series is a fun book for those into computer games, covering all the main games, including 2018 releases. There are the sort of records you would expect, such as the fastest times for completing various games, plus some unusual ones, including the largest gathering of people, 316, dressed as Lara Croft. Heaps of fun reading to keep the gamer in your family amused when the PS4 is turned off.

101 Marvellous Movies You May Have Missed by David Stratton

Movie guru David Stratton has gathered together 101 movies that you possibly have never heard of and explains why they’re worth seeing. From the dark Jack Nicholson drama The Crossing Guard to the musical sequences of Love’s Labour’s Lost to the big western action of Open Range, Stratton covers a variety of genres. Some of the movies are small art house releases, but others are expensive productions involving well-known stars. Fun to flick through while selecting your next movie.
