Brumbies star halfback Nic White will remain in Canberra for another year after re-signing with the club and Rugby Australia until the end of 2023.

The one-year extension will see White help lead Australia at next year’s Rugby World Cup in France.

The 31-year-old returned to Australian rugby in 2020 after stints in France and England, playing in the 2019 Rugby World Cup before helping guide the Brumbies to a Super Rugby AU title. 

Scone-born and a proud member of the Maitland Blacks and the Queanbeyan Whites, White burst onto the scene in 2012 after making his Brumbies debut in 2011, earning his first selection for the Wallabies in 2013 against New Zealand. 

A pillar of professionalism at both club and international level, White has represented the Brumbies on 94 occasions to date and could reach 50 caps for the Wallabies in the upcoming England series if selected for all three tests. 

White said that he is thrilled to stay with the Brumbies and to continue pushing for Wallabies selection.

“I’m really happy to be staying at the club and in Australian rugby,” he said.

“It’s been a long process, but my goal has always been to stay at the Brumbies and to continue to earn the right play for my country.

“The Brumbies is home to me, I love the club and my focus now is fully on the Blues this Saturday and the exciting challenges we have ahead of us.”

Brumbies head coach Dan McKellar said White still has a lot of good football left for the club.

“Everyone at the Brumbies is excited to have Whitey stay at a club which clearly means a lot to him and his family,” said McKellar.

“We talk a lot about needing world class players in your team to compete at the top level and Whitey’s in that bracket. 

“With his professionalism and dedication, he’s got a lot more to give to the game and he’ll be an important player for the Brumbies for as long as he wears ACT colours.”

Wallabies coach Dave Rennie said White’s re-signing is a huge plus for Rugby Australia.

“Nic’s one of the best halfbacks in the world and to have him recommit to Australian Rugby is a massive positive for the Wallabies and the Brumbies,” said Rennie.

“He has amazing work ethic, has high expectations of himself and demands the same from those around him.

“Whitey’s a top man, his competitiveness is infectious and he’s playing the house down at the moment.”
