The Brumbies recorded their first win in New Zealand since 2014, and their first over the Chiefs since 2007, with a 26-14 victory on Saturday 22 February.

The visitors got off to a strong start to lead 26-0 before the Chiefs started to come back through Aaron Cruden, the veteran picking a perfect line from close range to score. That effort lifted the home side and the Brumbies were forced to defend their line, eventually holding on for the win.

The result was particularly pleasing for coach Dan McKellar given the challenges the club faced earlier in the week with a number of cases of mumps within the playing and team staff.

“This club is built around resilience and we’ve shown plenty of that over the last 10 days and to come over here against a quality team and get a result on their turf is incredibly pleasing,” McKellar said. The Brumbies have a bye in round five of the Super Rugby competition.

In other news, the Brumbies women remain unbeaten this season with a penalty from Sammie Wood sealing a 25-22 victory against the Melbourne Rebels. The Brumbies Super W side will take on the NSW Waratahs in round three on Friday 28 February in Sydney.
