A Waramanga man has been charged with burgling the Domestic Animal Services facility in Symonston on the weekend. He is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court today.
About 11.00pm on Saturday 20 January, the defendant, a 34-year-old man, allegedly stole a seven-month-old dog from the facility, using power tools to damage locks and access its cage.
The dog had been seized from the man because he did not comply with ownership requirements.
No other dogs were taken.
Yesterday, Sunday 21 January, the facility reported the burglary and missing dog to the police.
After reviewing facility records and CCTV footage, police identified the suspect. Police and Domestic Animal Services officers visited the man’s home and located the stolen dog. The man was charged with one count of burglary.
