Burnout in front of police car lands Chisholm drink driver in court

A 31-year-old Chisholm man will be summonsed to face court after performing a burnout directly in front of a marked police vehicle in Gilmore last week.

About 5.50pm on Friday 16 September, police were on patrol in Gilmore when a Toyota utility pulled out in front of them.

The vehicle came to a stop, before performing a burnout in front of the marked police car for approximately 20 seconds – the entire incident was captured by police dash-cam.

Police performed a traffic stop a short time later, where the driver returned a positive roadside screen for alcohol; he later returned a positive breath sample of 0.151 – more than three times the legal 0.05 limit.

The man’s drivers’ licence was immediately suspended, and his vehicle seized. He has also been charged with drink driving and improper use of a motor vehicle.

Police would like to remind the community that this type of behaviour will not be tolerated, and encourage members of the public to report similar incidents to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
