Calvary Hospital fire sparks partial evacuation

A fire at Calvary Public Hospital this afternoon has caused a partial evacuation with police and fire crews called to the scene.

The reported fire in the Xavier Building around 12.30pm saw the internal fire sprinkler system activated, with emergency services on the scene immediately.

A partial evacuation of patients commenced until the emergency services advised no further evacuations were required.

Preparations are being made to evacuate Maternity Unit patients if required.

Fire & Rescue Services are undertaking air quality assessments across the Calvary campus.

No patients, staff or visitors have been injured.

The following arrangements are in place until at least 5.00pm:

  • Emergency Services have requested nobody attend Calvary unless in an extreme health emergency, people are asked to attend Canberra Hospital emergency
  • ACT Ambulance Services have placed Calvary on bypass and will transport patients to Canberra Hospital
  • Calvary Maternity Services are also on bypass to the Centenary Hospital

Calvary Public Hospital is on bypass for Emergency and Maternity Services
