Canberra beekeeping business named ACT Exporter of the Year

A Canberra business revolutionising the art of beekeeping was named ACT Exporter of the Year at the 2024 ACT Chief Minister’s Export Awards tonight.

Chief Minister Andrew Barr congratulated HiveiQ and CEO Victor Croker for “this significant achievement as they continue to create buzz among apiarists in Australia and around the world”.

HiveiQ’s mission is to create the world’s best beehives, creating stronger colonies for healthy and productive bees. Its beehives are made from high-density polystyrene rather than from the traditional material of timber. The company says the insulation is seven times better, and the beehives only weigh half as much. Hobby and commercial beekeepers around the world use their beehives.

“HiveiQ’s technology is making beekeeping easier and more efficient for its customers, from hobbyists to large businesses,” Mr Barr said.

HiveiQ was also named this year’s Emerging Exporter – “testament to HiveiQ’s early success,” Mr Barr said.

The other businesses to win awards were:

  • Resources and Energy: Ardexa
  • Small Business: Folktale
  • Creative Industries: Eggpicnic
  • e-Commerce: mHITs (Rocket Remit)
  • ACT Promising Exporter: BoomBox Industries
  • ACT Promising Exporter: PPB Technology

Winners of the ACT Chief Minister’s Export Awards become national finalists at the Australian Export Awards.

“These businesses continue to promote Canberra on the world stage, showcasing our city’s innovation and creativity to an international audience,” Mr Barr said.

Judge Harry Hoang, CEO of Tailored Accounts, said: “It is exciting to see so many inspiring businesses growing their client base internationally. The finalists and category winners demonstrated a solid understanding of their markets, and had made significant inroads into capturing market share.”
