Canberrans are reminded to remember their responsibilities in the fight against COVID-19, as the ACT ticks over nearly seven weeks without an active case and some restrictions ease.
The ACT Chief Health Officer endorsed the increase in spectators at GIO Stadium Canberra on Wednesday, for this weekend’s matches involving the Brumbies and Canberra Raiders.
The venue will now hold 3,000 spectators for both games – a move that was delayed in early July, after three confirmed COVID-19 cases were recorded in the ACT.
While endorsing the move, ACT Chief Health Officer Dr Kerryn Coleman reminded Canberrans to remain vigilant.
“Whether you’re planning on heading to the footy or just making the most of the great weather this weekend, it is important we all continue to maintain physical distancing, practise good hand and respiratory hygiene, stay home If you are unwell and get tested if any COVID-19 symptoms present,” she said.
“For those heading out to see the Brumbies and Raiders, you must sit in your allocated seat and, if you begin to feel unwell at the venue, you should notify a customer service attendant or first aid officer on site immediately to ask for assistance.”
After no new COVID-19 cases being recorded again overnight, the ACT’s total remains at 113 with three recorded deaths. There are now 73,960 negative tests recorded in the Territory.
Canberrans are asked to remain alert when participating in travel around NSW, after another 13 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed in the state today.
Any ACT residents who have or plan to travel to the Greater Sydney region are asked to monitor themselves for symptoms and stay updated on locations with confirmed cases through the NSW Health website.
Canberrans are also being discouraged from inviting people from the Greater Sydney region into the ACT at this time.
