Canberra gears up for Tiny’s Car Challenge

The Canberra community is gearing up for Tiny’s Car Challenge, to be held on Thursday 3 September in Hall. The event is the first instalment in Goran ‘Tiny’ Srejic’s plans to raise $2.5 million for local charities in the next five years.

The Car Challenge has raised over $55,000 for local charities and will see 18 dedicated Canberrans battle it out to see who can keep their hands on a brand-new Volkswagen Golf for the longest – donated by Tiny and his wife Elaine. The lucky winner gets to take it home.

Originally 28 people were in the running for the challenge, with the top 18 fundraisers now preparing to battle it out for the top prize. The top fundraising efforts include more than $11,000 raised for Canberra Street Cat Alliance and over $12,000 for the Veterans Support Centre.

Tiny told Canberra Daily in July the event is about showing the rest of Australia the generosity of the community in and around Canberra.

“I was watching a TV show where they give away cars, and I thought ‘we could do something different where we raise money for charities’,” he said.

“Canberrans, let’s show the rest of Australia we can do it!”

The runner-up will take home a $5,000 cash prize, donated by Kellie from McIntyre Real Estate.

Originally planned to be held at the Canberra Outlet Centre, the event has been moved to the Polocrosse Hall in Hall due to COVID-19, and COVID-safe rules will be enforced. A limit of 100 people will be allowed in the hall, with food and coffee available on site as well as a sausage sizzle by Hartley Lifecare.

Tiny’s Car Challenge kicks off on Thursday 3 September 10am, at the Polocrosse Hall in Hall, and will run until there’s only one person left standing with their hand on the car. For more information or to donate – donations will be accepted until 7 September – visit the Tiny’s 2.5 website.
