Canberra girls’ big multisport community event returns on Sunday

Tennis ACT will host Canberra’s largest multisport community event, the Canberra Girls Get Active Day, this Sunday 3 March at Canberra Tennis Centre in Lyneham, ahead of International Women’s Day on 8 March.

The Canberra Girls Get Active Day is a free community event aimed at inspiring, energising and empowering women and girls to get all the benefits of sport, from social connectedness to health and healthy competition, Tennis ACT said in a statement. The event is gender inclusive.

This year will see the highest amount of sports participating, with 16 sports on offer.

Canberra’s leading female sports team will be joining in the fun including Giants AFLW, Raiders NRLW, Brumbies Women and Canberra United football. Netball, basketball, hockey, cycling, softball, volleyball and pickleball will all join forces, offering free activities for boys and girls, as well as free yoga from Lululemon, Next Gen offering free fitness classes, and free seated massage by CBR Massage.

There will be tennis activities happening all morning including free Hot Shot Tennis for the kids, or for the adults Pop Tennis and Cardio Tennis by Tennis World Canberra.

In conjunction with Canberra Girls Get Active Day, Tennis ACT will also host a number of women and girls’ initiatives this weekend. Events start on Friday with Olympic Rower Kim Brennan (nee Crow) appearing as guest speaker at the ACT Women in Sport & Leadership Brunch, followed by the Developing Talent and #NoLimits Workshop with world renowned expert Sèverine Tamborero, Tennis Canada’s director of high performance.
