Canberra IWD Lunch 2022 – UN Women Australia

For over 30 years, UN Women Australia has hosted pre-eminent IWD fundraising events, inviting speakers to celebrate and educate audiences about global achievements.

The theme for IWD 2022 is Changing Climates: Equality today for a sustainable tomorrow â€“ recognising the contribution of women around the world who are working to change the gender equality climate and to build a sustainable future.

This year, an exclusive interview will be aired from internationally renowned scientist, conservationist and human rights activist, Dr Jane Goodall. Appearing virtually, Dr Goodall will be interviewed by sustainability activist Linh Do. Tickets start at $130, book via humantix.

2022 IWD Charity Dinner – Canberra Labor Club

The Canberra Labor Club is hosting its annual IWD Charity Dinner on Thursday 10 March from 6pm. This year, funds will be raised for local charity, Toora Women Inc.

Toora Women Inc supports women with experience of domestic and family violence, addiction, and/or homelessness in the ACT and surrounds.

2022’s charity dinner will be hosted by the radio journalist Ginger Gorman, and will feature a variety of guest speakers sharing their stories on #BreakTheBias. Tickets are $98 per person and include a three-course dinner, drinks, access to the question and answer panel discussion, and a charity raffle; book via myguestlist.

Mother’s Day Classic – Canberra 2022 Breakfast

The launch of the 2022 Canberra Mother’s Day Classic will be celebrated with an International Women’s Day breakfast at Double Drummer Café in Barton.

The Mother’s Day Classic is one of Australia’s largest charity events, raising money for breast cancer research. This year’s launch breakfast is organised by Women in Super.

Attendees will hear all about the upcoming Mother’s Day Classic at Rond Terrace, Lake Burley Griffin, getting active for breast cancer research, as emceed by journalist Louise Momber. Guest speakers include Mother’s Day Classic Community Ambassador, Erin Sorrensen. Tickets are $30 per person, book via trybooking.

Female Founders IWD Panel Lunch

Budding entrepreneurs and businesswomen are warmly invited to a lunch panel celebrating International Women’s Day, hosted at the Canberra Innovation Network, and showcasing a lineup of inspiring CEOs. Two events will take place, including a 12pm panel led by The Joyful Frugalista, Serina Bird.

The panel theme sits in line with the UN’s “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow” theme. Serina Bird will facilitate an interactive panel discussion with guest speakers: President of the Canberra Environment Centre and Chair of Canberra’s Zero Waste Revolution, Mia Swainson; founder of enviro tech company Evalue8 Sustainability, Ilea Buffier; and winner of The Clean Energy Start-up Pitch Battle, Sophia Hamblin-Wang.

At 1pm there will be a “Break the Bias” Interactive Workshop for Innovation, in line with the official theme of IWD 2022. Hosts Canberra Innovation Network team will deliver a one-hour, interactive workshop to provide practical activities and empower participants to smash the bias. Tickets are $15, book via eventbrite.

IWD #BreakTheBias show

This year for IWD, Milestone Events is hosting a concert headlined by phenomenal Canberra-based singer/songwriter, Aya Yves.

All profits from the show will be donated to International Women’s Day Canberra on behalf of UN Women Australia.

The full lineup is soon to be announced on the Milestone Entertainment Facebook page – although anyone would have a tough act to follow after Aya, whom Triple J described as Canberra’s very own Lorde.

There will be an afternoon and evening show, both taking place at the Harmonie German Club. Tickets start at $35 for one sitting, book via humantix.

Ronni Kahn, CEO of OzHarvest, address to the National Press Club

CEO and founder of OzHarvest Ronni Kahn said it’s imperative Australia aims to halve our significant national food wastage. Image supplied.

Ronni Kahn AO, social entrepreneur and founder of Australia’s leading food rescue charity, OzHarvest, will address the National Press Club of Australia in partnership with Women in Media.

Ronni is an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) and was named Australian Local Hero of the Year. She serves in an advisory capacity to the government, and is a sought-after keynote speaker.

Lunch will be provided for those in attendance, and tickets are $80 for members, $99 for non-members. Book via npc.org.au.

Australian Indigenous Doctors’ Association IWD Breakfast

The Australian Indigenous Doctors’ Association (AIDA) are hosing an informative and entertaining International Women’s day Breakfast as part of their yearlong 25th Anniversary celebrations.

Hosted by Dan Bourchier from the ABC, the robust panel will be featuring Ms Rachelle Towart OAM, Dr Ngaree Blow, Associate Professor Lisa Whop, Aunty Pat Anderson AO and Rachel Stephen-Smith MLA. Book here.
