Lifeline Canberra Bookfair returns southside this weekend

Lifeline Canberra’s Southside Bookfair will return tomorrow, Friday 15 July, at the Southern Cross Basketball Stadium, and run for three days.

“After closing our doors early at our February Bookfair at EPIC, we are eager and ready for a big few days, with our biggest Southside Bookfair ever,” a spokesperson said.

Lifeline has more than 80 pallets of items, including books, CDs, DVDs, comics, and maps.

“Aside from the vast array of reading material encompassing all genres and many languages, customers will be able to browse comics, maps, games, records, and jigsaws, among other wonderful items.”

The Lifeline Bookfairs are the charity’s biggest fundraisers, CEO Carrie-Ann Leeson said.

“The generosity of the community in donations, combined with the efforts of Lifeline’s volunteers, all culminate in the wonderful event that is the Bookfair and the feeling we all get when we see people smile over a sought-after book or kids cling to a favourite title. There is a lot that is humbling about a Bookfair, and we are so proud to bring our Southside Bookfair back to the community.

“Our Bookfairs raise a major portion of the funding needed to keep our local 13 11 14 crisis support and suicide prevention service available to the community. Every handful of books costs approximately $26 – and this equates to one life-changing call.

“We thank everyone involved – from our volunteers to our customers and everyone who helps spread the word about our Bookfairs – for supporting this vital community service.”

The Southside Bookfair is at 7 Pitman St, Greenway. Friday 15 July, 9am to 6pm; Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 July, 9am to 4pm.

Entry to the Bookfair is by gold coin donation, with tap and go facilities also available on entry.

Purchases can be made with cash, credit card (Mastercard or Visa) or EFTPOS.
