Canberra man extradited from Queensland following family violence offences

A 37-year-old Canberra man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today, 30 August, over serious family violence charges following his extradition from Queensland.

ACT Policing had sought the public’s assistance to locate the man last week.

In addition to family violence offences, the man was also the subject of two outstanding warrants after allegedly breaching an Intensive Corrections Order in July 2023, and failing to appear in court in early August.

The man was arrested by Queensland Police members in Townsville in the early hours of Monday, 28 August.

He was subsequently extradited to the ACT by ACT Policing’s Family Violence Unit, where he will face charges relating to his failure to appear and the warrants. Further charges relating to family violence offences are also expected. Police will oppose bail.
