Canberra mountain bike sensation Harriet Burbidge-Smith has celebrated her 27th birthday in style, taking home gold in Speed & Style at Crankworx Cairns earlier today.
The fairy tale win marks back-to-back victories for the Aussie champion at the Cairns competition, and marks her fifth gold in the Crankworx competition to date.
The Canberra native went head-to-head with fellow Canberran Caroline Buchanan in an all-Aussie Speed & Style final, which challenges athletes to out-race and out-trick their opponent.
It was Burbidge-Smith’s signature backflip and consistent speed that gave her the edge and a well-earned birthday present.
Burbidge-Smith crossed the finish line in 48.733 seconds, taking the advantage over Buchanan by
1.935 seconds. The Cairns edition is just one of four stops across the globe, with the home crowd in
Australia going wild for their local champion.
“It feels super special to win again in Cairns, and the home crowd is on it as usual,” Burbidge-Smith
said.
Competition continues for Burbidge-Smith tomorrow, with Friday’s Dual Slalom final available to
watch live on Red Bull TV.
