Canberra records 938 new COVID-19 cases, 25 in hospital

Canberra has recorded 938 new COVID-19 cases in the 24 hours to 8pm last night as the number of people in hospital fell.

Today’s figure is the first daily total under one thousand since Thursday last week and is down 101 on yesterday’s 1,039 cases.

Patients in hospital with the virus has dropped by two to 25. Four people are in intensive care with three requiring ventilation.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Canberra has dropped by 85 to 5,681 while the total infections during the Canberra outbreak is up to 13,248.

The ‘fully vaccinated’ rate in Canberra remains at 98.5 per cent while 22.5 per cent of ACT residents aged 18 and over have received a booster shot.

4,279 negative PCR tests were returned in the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Greg Hunt insists there will be enough COVID-19 vaccine doses for children aged five to 11 as the rollout for young Australians officially begins on Monday.

Mr Hunt says three million doses will be available over January for the 2.3 million children eligible for a jab.

More than 80 per cent of Australians aged 12 to 15 have had two doses, he noted.

“That’s an important sign as we go into the children’s vaccine program,” Mr Hunt said in Canberra on Sunday.
