Nine new COVID-19 cases have been detected in the ACT, as Canberra gets ready to ease some of its last remaining virus restrictions.

The nine new COVID-19 cases recorded takes the number now associated with the Delta outbreak in the national capital to 1778.

Vaccination rates in Canberra continue to climb, with 95.8 per cent of ACT residents 12 and over being fully vaccinated.

There are no COVID patients in ACT hospitals.

However, health authorities have said there is still one patient in hospital who was originally admitted from the effects of the virus.

The patient was in intensive care and on a ventilator as recently as Monday.

But ACT health officials say the patient has been cleared from isolation and does not have an active COVID infection, meaning they are not included in overall hospitalisation figures.

It comes as Canberra prepares to ease restrictions on Friday.

The new rules will see household visitor and outdoor gathering limits scrapped, density increased for hospitality and retail venues, nightclubs reopen and face masks no longer mandated except for high-risk indoor settings.

Indoor and outdoor entertainment venues with fixed seating will be able to open at 100 per cent capacity, organised sport can resume indoors and restrictions on cinemas and swimming pools will also be eased.

The restrictions were set to be eased on November 26 but were brought forward by two weeks due to the ACT’s nation-leading vaccine rate.

Territory health authorities also moved on Thursday to set up a pop-up COVID vaccine clinic in Canberra’s south.

Parts of southern Canberra have been hit by virus outbreaks linked to clusters at several schools, with the number of affected schools continuing to grow.
