Canberrans reminded to register vehicles after recent incidents

Canberrans are being reminded by ACT Policing to register their vehicles after two recent incidents.

Last Thursday morning, 27 October, Road Policing officers conducting speed checking at a school zone in Waramanga, identified a black Nissan Skyline that had expired registration.

A short pursuit occurred, with the Skyline travelling in excess of 150km/h on the Tuggeranong Parkway. Due to the risk to public safety, police abandoned the pursuit at that time.

The next day, Friday 28 October, police attended an address linked to the vehicle and spoke to the 19-year-old driver. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his Nissan Skyline was seized.

He will receive a summons to attend court at a later date in relation to the following offences:

  • fail to stop for police;
  • aggravated furious and reckless driving;
  • use unregistered vehicle;
  • use uninsured vehicle;
  • not display P-plates;
  • not notify RTA of change to vehicle garaging address; and
  • not notify RTA to change of driver licence address.

Yesterday, Saturday 29 October, at about 2.30pm, Road Policing officers patrolling Aranda located a utility and trailer that were both unregistered.

The 27-year-old driver was also found to have an expired licence.

He was issued seven infringements including unlicenced driving, two counts of use an unregistered vehicle, use uninsured vehicle, not notifying the RTA of changes of address and drive with an unsecured load.

ACT Policing is reminding all vehicle owners to ensure their vehicles and trailers are registered. The cost of annual registration is less expensive than receiving infringements as well as paying to register the vehicle when caught.
