Canberra’s own women specific podcast

The World of Women (WoW) podcast may have been born from a less than ideal situation, but creator Georgina Beasley has channelled it into something truly wonderful.

The Canberra resident began the WoW podcast while recovering from her second endometriosis surgery in July, after seeing a gap in the market for women-specific information.

“I’m in my mid-twenties and I feel like overnight I went from being a child to an adult and no one really gave me the tools I needed to enter adulthood,” she said.

“I was diagnosed with endometriosis when I was 22 and it’s been a really complicated battle for my whole life. I didn’t even know what it was, I was searching for this disease I had never even heard of.

“That was definitely the crucial turning point when I thought, we just don’t know enough about what we need to know and what we should know as women.”

With a background in marketing and the eagerness and motivation to empower women around her, Georgina has created a weekly podcast series featuring experts in all things women.

With 17 episodes in the bank so far and an initial ranking of number 11 on the Apple Podcast education charts, she covers women-focused topics on what she describes as an infinite list.

“No one told me how I am meant to ask for a pay rise or how I am meant to cope with dealing with anxiety or mental health struggles,” she said.

“I wasn’t told any of that and I felt there was this huge gap in the market for women who want to feel educated and want to feel more empowered in having our lives more together than we do.

“I am sure I will get to a point where I will regret saying it’s a never-ending list, but I do feel like there are so many different things we can talk about. I think we are so complex.”

Aimed at women from 18 to 34 years of age, Georgina said while she is still getting on her feet and building a name for the podcast, she is getting more out of the process than she could have imagined.

“If I help one person who has listened to one episode that would be fantastic, but I have also been getting so much out of it,” she said.

“It sounds selfish, but I am learning so much, I don’t mind if anyone listens to it. Thankfully, people do listen to it and it seems to be going really well, but it’s selfish in the way I get to be learning so much by interviewing all of these amazing people.”

You can listen to Georgina’s WoW podcast on all of your favourite podcasting apps, or online.
