Canberra’s Scott Leggo recognised for winning shot

Canberra-based photographer Scott Leggo has received international acclaim for his aerial landscape shot Backbone, which has been included in the top 50 photographs in the Epson International Pano Awards.

The awards are the largest dedicated to the art of panoramic photography. This year, the competition was fierce with over 4,000 entries receive from 98 countries. Leggo was one of only a couple of Australian photographers to be included in the top 50, whose works will be showcased in hundreds of publications across the globe.

Backbone is an overhead shot of a dam, showing the viewer a side of the catchment that would otherwise remain unseen. Leggo, who is also a former Air Force officer, diplomat, and Iraq war veteran, says the shot was one of the first he had taken from a drone.

“As a landscape photographer, seeing the world from above and capturing an aerial perspective allows me to explore the Australian landscape in a different way. It captures a different level of beauty than what we see at ground level. I’m excited by what I can capture going forward as I explore this aerial perspective further,” he says.

Leggo says it is an honour to be recognised in a competition that encompasses such a high calibre of work, in a highly competitive photographic field.

“It’s an honour to be recognised at such a level in this annual competition,” he says.

The newest accolade is one of over a hundred Leggo has received in recognition of his works in photography. Leggo continues to be an inspiration for other veterans wanting to branch out to entrepreneur roles, having grown his business to such a high level of success.
