Caps move into second after thumping the Flyers

The Canberra Capitals have moved into second place on the WNBL ladder after a dominant 106-62 win over the Southside Flyers in Dandenong, Victoria on Saturday night, 5 March.

The 44-point win came off the back of an incredible second quarter from the Caps that saw them outscore the Flyers 24-3.

It helped Canberra open up a 30-point margin at half time and they were never threatened after the break.

All of the Caps’ five starters scored in double figures with Britt Sykes leading the way with 24 points to go along with her nine assists, while Kelsey Griffin notched another double double with 20 points and 10 assists.

Kelly Wilson and Alex Bunton scored 16 each, while Britt Smart added ten points.

Following Jenna O’Hea opening up about her own mental health struggles, the Southside Flyers pledged to donate $100 for every assist they made on the night to Lifeline.

Canberra announced they’d match all funds raised to support Lifeline and encourage anyone suffering to reach out and connect.

Together, the Flyers and the Caps will donate a combined $4400 thanks to Southside’s 22 assists.

The Capitals next take on the Perth Lynx in Western Australia on Saturday 12 March.
