Capture Lyneham in a single snapshot: The photo event for everyone

The Lyneham Community Association has kicked off a photo event for anyone who loves Lyneham and North O’Connor; whether you live, work, or even just get coffee in the suburbs, the event is for you.

The Eye Spy My Lyneham Community Photo Celebration encourages everyone to join in the fun, from budding photographers to adults and children with only a phone camera.

“There’s a few aged care facilities in Lyneham so we’re hoping to get the older population involved as well, and really making it as open and accessible as possible,” project coordinator Nicole Deen said.

The event is spread into three categories; a photo competition running from 12 April to 9 May, a photo scavenger hunt from 12 to 25 April, and a photo walk on 2 May, and closes with all entries on show at a photo exhibition at Lyneham Primary School Hall on 12 June.

The photo celebration has been put together to get people thinking about what they love about Lyneham, and a way to get people more interested in coming together and sharing their ideas of the suburb’s future.

Nicole, who moved to Lyneham two years ago, absolutely loves the atmosphere of the suburb and how close it is to nature.

“There’s great little cafes, it’s just a gem with places everywhere, it’s so convenient,” she said.

The photo competition asks people to capture Lyneham in one single snapshot; they are looking for original photos of what it means to live, work, study or play in the suburb.

The photo scavenger hunt is an online event that encourages people to explore the two suburbs and take photos of 10 themed clues which can be accessed on the event’s Facebook and Instagram accounts.

“Doing some photos online meant that people can access that and participate in their own way without us having to worry about getting people physically together in the same place,” Nicole said.

For those who are just interested in the photo walk, it is a semi-guided tour of Lyneham led by a photography enthusiast.

“It’s a good way of meeting people and getting to see an area in a slightly different way,” Nicole said.

As a bonus, there are a range of prizes up for grabs – from gift cards worth more than $100 to PhotoAccess memberships.
