The Lifeline Canberra logo will be seen on the Canberra Cavalry jersey this season, as the local Australian Baseball League (ABL) franchise hands over its naming rights for a good cause.
The ABL team donated the naming rights for the season, hoping the collaboration would help to raise awareness of mental health.
Lifeline Canberra Cavalry director Dan Amodio said there was no better time for the collaboration than after the past year.
“These last 12 months have tested the mental health of Canberrans in extreme ways and I’ve been amazed by how gracefully Lifeline Canberra has risen to meet that challenge,” he said.
“Mental health is a key focus throughout our organisation, and we hope this announcement will help us do our part in raising awareness for their cause and raising a lot of money for their organisation.”
In addition to the naming rights, the Cavalry’s Lifeline ambassadors David Kandilas and mascot Sarge will strive to support Lifeline in their fundraising efforts.
Lifeline Canberra CEO Carrie-Ann Leeson said the partnership with the sporting team would add an extra layer of support for the community organisation.
“This new partnership with the Lifeline Canberra Cavalry is truly special, to come together after such a challenging year to celebrate inclusion, mateship and the Canberra community is what Lifeline Canberra is all about,” she said.
“The Cavalry players are young leaders in the community and their commitment to professional sport keeps them healthy in body and mind.
“It is these attributes we need to share in order to help support those who are thinking of suicide.”
The collaboration will also see the “Save-a-Seat Series”, which will treat a member of the Canberra community to a VIP experience at each Cavalry game this season.
The ABL is scheduled to start in December, with the Cavalry set to join Perth, Sydney and Melbourne in Western Australia for the Australian conference.
The Cavs will go head to head against the Perth Heat on 18 December.
