Cavs season opener on ice following NSW COVID outbreak

The Canberra Cavalry will not travel to Perth for its Opening Weekend Australian Baseball League (ABL) series against the Perth Heat as a result of the recent COVID outbreak in Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

Over 90% of the Cavalry squad would be forced to quarantine for two weeks in WA as many of the travelling group reside in NSW, have recently been in NSW and/or have been in contact with individuals from NSW.

This means the series between the sides has been suspended until further notice, with the ABL to provide an update on scheduling and competition points in the near future.

The Cavs’ next scheduled match is against the Melbourne Aces at MIT Narrabundah Ballpark on Saturday night, 26 December.

The Heat will instead play an exhibition game against Brisbane’s futures team at Empire Ballpark in Perth tonight, 18 December, with further matches to be scheduled for tomorrow night.
