The CBR Brave will dedicate the 2021 Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) season to the memory of Lachlan Seary, who died in a car accident over the Canberra Day long weekend.
Brave CEO Dan Amodio says the team will commemorate Lachlan, who was just 19 and a junior member of the Brave, by wearing his initials on the team jerseys and hosting a preseason event in his name.
“To lose Lachy at such a young age and in horrific circumstances is a tragedy beyond words.” Amodio said.
“As a club, from the front office to the playing group, we will be doing everything we can to commemorate his memory prior to and during the 2021 season.”
The Brave will play 24 games across the 2021 AIHL season, 12 at home and 12 away, beginning on 8 May.
The games will be played across two regional conferences in NSW and Victoria.
This adjustment was made by the AIHL to prevent issues related to potential border closures and other COVID-related travel risks.
The Brave will compete against the Sydney Ice Dogs and Newcastle Northstars from May to August and will compete against the Melbourne Ice and Melbourne Mustangs from August to September.
The game on 8 May will be the Brave’s first AIHL game since the 2019 season after the entire 2020 season was cancelled due to the impacts of COVID-19.
Brave General Manager Sunny Singh says this season is all about the Brave community.
“For the players, fans, sponsors, we’re just so relieved that we can get them some live action so that they can start to feel like things are returning to normal,” said Singh.
