The Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) is in the running for Large Registered Training Organisation of the Year in the 2020 Australian Training Awards to be announced on 20 November.
The Australian Training Awards have been running since 1994, recognising achievements within the vocational education and training sector across both organisations and individuals.
CIT CEO Leanne Cover said it was an honour to be nominated for the awards, especially following the challenges COVID-19 has thrown at the vocational training sector.
“At a time when CIT is becoming increasingly relied upon to meet the needs of Canberra and our regional community, Canberrans can be proud that CIT is recognised as being among the most outstanding VET institutions in Australia,” she said.
“CIT is ready to support our apprentices, trainees and graduates to meet the challenges and opportunities of this new world and are so proud of how our staff have brought CIT into students’ homes through a greater integration of technology.”
Ms Cover said the nomination had come as a result of a number of innovative and collaborative projects within the vocational training facility, setting them apart from other institutions.
“These projects, initiatives and training environments run the full gamut of education and training offered here at CIT, including art, media, trades, renewables, horticulture, community work, health and wellbeing, cyber security and hospitality,” she said.
As well as the facility being nominated in the Large RTO awards, a number of CIT students are also in the running for individual awards at the national awards, including:
- Khye Bolin, Apprentice of the Year
- Clarisse Ambroise, Trainee of the Year
- Charise Mae Brabec, Vocational Student of the Year
- Lisa Cherie Birnie, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year
- Sebastian Connor, Australian School-based Apprentice of the Year
The final awards will be announced and presented at a virtual awards ceremony on Friday 20 November.
