ACT Community urged to dig deep this Daffodil Day

The Cancer Council is in desperate need of the ACT region’s help as its annual Daffodil Day has fallen victim to the COVID-19 lockdown.

Now in its 35th year, the Daffodil Day Appeal is the national charity’s most iconic fundraising campaign, with all money collected going towards world-class research to help improve outcomes for people touched by cancer.

Cancer Council ACT Fundraising and Marketing Manager Amanda Fintan said there are still a number of ways people can get behind the campaign.

“For many of us, Daffodil Day means purchasing a beautiful bunch of fresh daffodils from a flagship stall to help fund world-class cancer research and show our support for people affected by cancer,” she said.

“Sadly, the current COVID-19 outbreak in the ACT and NSW means that we can’t be out in the community for the second year in a row.

“Our flagship stalls are one of the most important ways that the community choose to support Daffodil Day, both through donations and by purchasing fresh daffodils.

“If you are one of the wonderful people who would usually purchase fresh daffodils, we’re counting on you to show your flower power in a different way and help save Daffodil Day.”

The event falls on Friday 27 August this year, but you can get involved any time throughout the month.

According to Amanda, there are five key ways you can help and get involved:

  1. Make an online donation at daffodilday.com.au/donate
  2. Become a Yellow Fundraiser. You can take on a challenge, get active in yellow, give up something you love – the options are endless. Register here: daffodilday.com.au/fundraise-your-way/
  3. Get fresh bunches of daffodils delivered to your home or workplace for a minimum donation of $100. Donate here
  4. Join the Game for Good campaign. With many of us spending more time on screens now, why not do it for a good cause? Join Cancer Council’s team of streamers and power life-saving cancer research by raising funds for Daffodil Day. Visit tiltify.com/cancer-council-australia/game-for-good to get started.
  5. Get the kids involved and enter our colouring/scavenger hunt competition. Participants will have the chance to win their very own daffodil bicycle! Click here for more information.
