ACT Policing are reminding Canberrans to follow health directions in the fight against COVID-19, as further restrictions will ease from this Friday (9 October).
Late last week, ACT Chief Health Officer Dr Kerryn Coleman announced Canberra would move to Step 3.2 of the Territory’s Recovery Plan which increases attendance at gatherings and venue capacity.
ACT Policing’s COVID-19 Taskforce member Inspector Rachel Hutka said Canberrans still needed to remain vigilant, especially during the school holiday period.
“While the restrictions continue to ease, it is so important that the community don’t undo the months of hard work by becoming complacent,” she said.
“When you are attending a Canberra business, please follow staff advice to help them continue to comply with the health directions. We must continue to work together for our community’s safety.
“School holidays continue in the ACT and while more people can come together, it is vital people physically distance and follow proper hygiene practices.”
From 9am on Friday 9 October, the following easing of restrictions will come into effect:
- All gatherings can increase to 200 people.
- Hospitality venues with total usable space between 101 and 200 square metres can have a maximum of 50 people (excluding staff) throughout the venue.
- Large indoor seated venues (e.g. Canberra Theatre, Llewellyn Hall) can have ticketed and seated events up to 50% capacity, up to 1,000 people provided they have a COVID Safe Plan for each specific event.
- Cinemas and movie theatres can sell up to 50% capacity of each theatre, up to 200 people.
- GIO Stadium and Manuka Oval can have crowds up to 50% capacity with an appropriate COVID Safe Plan in place for each event.
- Enclosed outdoor venues with permanent tiered seating/grandstands, can have up to 50% capacity, up to 1,000 tickets.
In the week prior to 6 October, ACT Policing conducted 733 quarantine checks, bringing the total number of checks to more than 13,500.
