Corey Horsburgh is at long odds to play again in 2023 after the Canberra firebrand was slapped with a four-game ban following his failed judiciary appeal.

Horsburgh headed to the NRL judiciary on Tuesday aiming to have a grade-one shoulder charge penalty on Brisbane’s Corey Jensen dismissed.

Owing to his previous indiscretions, Horsburgh was facing a three-game ban.

But by rolling the dice and losing his appeal he has been slapped with a further week’s suspension.

“I’m very disappointed with the result, I think four weeks is a bit much but onwards and upwards,” Horsburgh said. 

The judiciary panel of Bob Lindner and Sean Hampstead unanimously found the 25-year-old guilty after 20 minutes of deliberation.

Horsburgh will miss Canberra’s final-round clash against Cronulla on Sunday, with the Raiders needing to win to ensure they make the top eight.

The Queensland Origin forward will only play again this season if the Raiders reach this year’s grand final.

He was supported by Raiders chief executive Don Furner and was cheered into League Central by Canberra superfan and club drummer Simon Tayoun.

But Lindner and Hampstead found against the argument mounted by Raiders lawyer Nick Ghabar.

Elsewhere at the judiciary on Tuesday, Sydney Roosters enforcer Jared Waerea-Hargreaves is aiming to have a grade-two dangerous contact charge – carrying a three-game suspension – downgraded.

Waerea-Hargreaves has already accepted a three-game ban for a headbutt in Saturday’s win over Wests Tigers.

If he loses his dangerous contact charge Waerea-Hargreaves will have his suspension beefed up to four games, ensuring he misses seven matches in total.
