The Canberra Raiders kicked off their 2020 NRL season with an 18-point win, 24-6, over the Gold Coast Titans at GIO Stadium Canberra on Friday 13 March; however, the future of the competition is up in the air given the current COVID-19 crisis.
In an update on Sunday 15 March, it was announced that the NRL season would continue in round two with stadiums closed to the public.
The Raiders were due to take on the New Zealand Warriors in a doubleheader, with the Brumbies in New Zealand on Saturday 21 March. It is now expected the NRL game will be played on the Gold Coast on Saturday 21 March.
The Brumbies have also been impacted by the COVID-19 crisis with SANZAAR announcing that all remaining Super Rugby fixtures will be suspended for the foreseeable future.
The Brumbies recorded a 47-14 win over the NSW Waratahs at GIO Stadium on Sunday 15 March. The result gave the side a 10-point buffer at the top of the Australian conference while also moving them into second in the overall Super Rugby standings.
In the AFL, the length of the season will be reduced from 23 rounds to a maximum of 17 with clubs to face each other once. Round one will go ahead after lengthy meetings on Wednesday to determine the future of the 2020 season.
