Cricket ACT optimistic about post-pandemic season

Cricket ACT is optimistic about cricket post-COVID-19 with discussions currently taking place with the ACT Government and winter sports bodies to produce a plan that would ideally allow all local sports to conduct a season in some capacity.

At this stage, Cricket ACT is planning for the 2020/21 cricket season to proceed as usual; however, they are considering various possibilities as to the season’s timing.

“The situation with COVID-19 is constantly evolving, which unfortunately creates a high degree of short-term uncertainty,” CEO James Allsopp said.

“However, Cricket ACT is stubbornly optimistic that we will get through this together and cricket will not only survive but thrive. We look forward to continuing to unite and inspire our community through cricket when we get to the other side.”

The primary focus for Cricket ACT is on local clubs and community cricket and seeing that they emerge in the strongest position possible following the COVID-19 pandemic.

In terms of local competitions, Cricket ACT is planning to conduct the Kookaburra Cup tournament during the October school holidays (7-9 October). For more information on the tournament, click here.

Current details available on their other programs include:

  • ACTive Academy will resume in some capacity once the ACT Government advises it is safe to reduce social distancing measures.
  • Cricket ACT’s High Performance team are working through several scenarios while Cricket Australia conducts viability audits of international and domestic programs. Once more information comes to light, they will adapt our plan to fit within the new scope of the 2020/21 cricket international and domestic program.
  • A number of cricket programs for schools have been adapted for the remote learning environment.  For more information, email [email protected]
