The delivery of Cupid’s Undie Run 2022, the signature fundraiser for the Children’s Tumour Foundation (CTF), the charitable authority and only dedicated support service for people impacted by neurofibromatosis (NF) in Australia, has been rejigged due to COVID. But it hasn’t been cancelled, as organisers are not going to let anything crash Cupid’s 10th birthday party.
The health of the NF community, volunteers and staff are of utmost importance to the CTF, so instead of thousands meeting in a pack in capital cities, you can now form your very own DIY run where you get to pick the location and time between now and 28 February. Participants now have total creative control over their Undie Run experience and CTF wants to see you bring your best, as you show off a little flesh – in the name of charity.
Registration is now free, so, assemble your mates, form a team as individual fundraisers and strip down to your smalls – will you hit the main street, beach or give a local sporting match a halftime show like never before?
There’s even more reason to celebrate as Cupid’s Undie Run turns 10 in 2022 and brings CTF 10 years closer to conquering NF. The CTF exists to help bring hope to those facing the unknowns of NF by advocating for more research, better resources and awareness, connections and support needed at every stage of their journey.
NF is a genetic disorder that affects one in every 2,500 people, and on average, a child is born every three days with NF in Australia. It causes tumours to form on nerves in the body, including the brain and spine. NF can also cause cancer, blindness, deafness, physical differences, learning difficulties and chronic pain. It is unpredictable, progressive and there is currently no cure.
“We have had to adapt Cupid’s this year to ensure every member of our NF community is safe. Although it’s a shame we can’t all be together in the original capacity we were expecting, we’re asking everyone to get involved and show their support for the many Australians facing the adversities of NF,” says Leanne Dib, CEO, Children’s Tumour Foundation.
“Events like Cupid’s Undie Run and ongoing lobbying with the Australian Government has helped fund millions of dollars in research to help those living with NF. We’ve already taken some big steps forward, but there’s more to do.”
NF can challenge people living with the condition by changing their bodies over time. Cupid’s Undie Run is a way for everyone to show their support by being brave like those that live with NF and baring a little to overcome any self-negativity about body image. Participants can do their DIY undie run wearing their undies or, choose to dress up in a Cupid’s T-shirt and tutu to show support.
Registration is now free and there will be a raffle and competitions, with up to $12,000 of Cupid’s 10th birthday presents for you to win. Prizes will be up for grabs for the highest individual fundraiser, the best dressed Cupid and the best DIY after-run party. There will also be up to $12,000 worth of Cupid’s 10th birthday presents to be won.
