The team at Curves Belconnen have been hard at work during the COVID-19 closure period, using the time to complete a number of training courses to upskill.
“We’ve all been using our downtime wisely,” said the gym’s owner Anita O’Meara. “We’ve renovated the entire gym for a new look and feel.”
The team has also completed training in the ‘Beat It’ diabetes program, ‘Memory through Movement’ and ‘Improving Flexibility’, as well as being the pilot club for the new Curves Health and Wellness Series.
The Beat It program allows trainers to deliver safe and effective programs for people with or at risk of diabetes, while all the courses will have practical applications in the gym.
Anita said ‘Memory through Movement’ is quite a newly-researched area of exercise physiology.
“We can deliver some moves to the ladies in the gym and help them not only improve their memory but also their performance.”
She said the Curves Health and Wellness Series will see a Nutrition and Weight Management program launched on re-opening, as well as a six-week Stretching and Stress Management course coming soon.
While the gym has been closed, members have not been missing out, with a range of online exercises available for people at home via Facebook and YouTube.
“We’ll have a new way we work when we re-open, delivering both online and face-to-face training programs, suitable for all fitness levels,” said Anita.
She said while Curves does cater for older women, the gym is open to all ages and fitness levels, “from people in their teens right through to their 80s”.
“The Curves circuit offers cardio and resistance training, which is fundamental to the Curves workout and women’s health and fitness. Alongside this, we also offer a variety of exercise options ranging from low to high intensity.”
