About 2.30pm, police responded to reports of a grey BMW sedan colliding with a cyclist on Lady Denman Drive, adjacent to the Glenloch Interchange.

Emergency services treated the cyclist at the scene before they were transported to the Canberra Hospital in a critical condition. Sadly, they were declared deceased soon after.

The driver of the BMW is assisting police with their enquiries.

ACT Road Policing’s Major Collision Team is investigating the circumstances of the collision and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Alicia had recently moved to Canberra from the Gold Coast and was working as a coach. Tennis Canberra paid tribute to her via a Facebook post.

Cycling advocacy group Pedal Power said it was “absolutely devastated” by the news.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who died in this incident yesterday,” executive director Dr Simon Copland said. “It is an absolutely tragic event.

“We still do not have the full details of what has happened; however, we understand that it is alleged that excessive speed was a factor. We have already received feedback from our members and the community who have told us they feel that Lady Denman Drive, and the area around this intersection, are unsafe. Members have raised concerns about excessive speed along the road, and sadly, in this case it has allegedly caused someone’s death.

“Pedal Power will continue to advocate for safer, slower streets across all of Canberra.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have dash cam footage relating to the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Please quote reference P2241507.
