Darren Hicks has led the Australian road cycling charge with his Paralympics gold one of four medals won in Tokyo on Tuesday.
Hicks was first out on the 24 kilometre course at the Fuji International Speedway in the men’s C2 time trial, with his winning time more than a minute and a half faster than the field.
The 36-year-old South Australian won a silver medal last week in the men’s C2 3,000 metres individual pursuit at the Izu Velodrome.
Australian teammate Paige Greco also doubled up, collecting bronze in the women’s C1-3 time trial after winning an individual pursuit gold medal.
Hometown favourite Keiko Sugiura was fastest while Sweden’s Anna Beck collected silver, less than a second ahead of 24-year-old Queenslander Greco.
In the C4 division, Aussie duo Emily Petricola and Meg Lemon bagged the minor medals behind defending champion American Shawn Morelli.
Petricola, aged 41 and making her Paralympics debut, was just 9.3 seconds off Morelli’s winning time.
