Dickson man charged with drug trafficking, driving offences

ACT Policing yesterday arrested a 32-year-old Dickson man for drug trafficking and driving offences.

About 2am on Saturday 20 November, members from City Police Station on patrol detected a stolen Toyota Rav4 on Phillip Avenue, Dickson and directed the driver to stop. It will be alleged the driver failed to do so and drove away at speed.

Police kept the vehicle in sight and a short time later it approached the entry doors to an apartment complex car park in Hawdon Place, Dickson.

The officers directed the driver to stop and exit the vehicle. After the man attempted to drive away again, police removed him from the vehicle and placed him under arrest.

Searches of the man and the vehicle located 38.9 grams of methamphetamine with an estimated street value in excess of $35,000, more than 700 millilitres of a liquid suspected to be Gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB), in excess of $22,000 cash, drug paraphernalia, and a knife.

A 32-year-old Dickson man appeared by video link before a special sitting of the ACT Magistrates Court this morning charged with trafficking in a controlled drug other than cannabis, dealing with the proceeds of crime, disqualified driving, driving a stolen motor vehicle, furious driving and failing to stop.

Police also located an electronic swipe card for an apartment in the Hawdon Place complex, and officers obtained a search warrant for the premises. Upon executing the warrant, substantial quantities of drugs were seized.

The man appeared by video link before a special sitting of the ACT Magistrates Court this morning, Sunday 21 November, charged with trafficking in a controlled drug other than cannabis, dealing with the proceeds of crime, disqualified driving, driving a stolen motor vehicle, furious driving, and failing to stop.

Police will oppose bail.

Investigations are continuing and police expect to lay further charges against the man and another person.

Anyone with information about the sale or manufacture of illicit drugs should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Information can be provided anonymously.
